How do I login to the backend/administration part of Joomla? How do I set the Author, Creation Date, etc. to hide automatically? How do I add an image to my website? How can I add a link to the menu? The backend of your website is located at www.mywebsite.com/administrator If you installed Joomla! manually (not via Fantastico, etc) your username will be "admin" and you should have already set the password. If you used an auto-installer such as Fantastico (Available with Hostmonster you were able to select a username right away.) Q. How Do I Set the Author, Creation Date, etc. to hide automatically? A. When your logged into the Backend of your Joomla! website, go to "Site" at the top and click "Global Configuration" Then click on the "Content" Tab. Here you can set the Author, Creation Date, Modify Date, PDF/Print/Email Icons, etc to be automatically hidden or shown. You can always override these settings on individual pages. Q. How do I add an image to my website? A. First, We Highly Recommend you use JCE Editor. After you have installed JCE and you are in your new content page, click on this icon: . You can now simply upload the image by clicking this icon: . Click "Browse", and locate the image. Then hit "OK". It should now appear in the list of images, click on the one you just uploaded. Depending on how you want the image to look, change the "Alignment" accordingly. The image of the strawberry on the right will show you a preview of how it will look. You can also change the title and description of the image.Q. How can I add a link to the menu? A. There are several ways to do this. If you want to add a link from a content item, click on "Link to Menu" on the right of the page you are editing. Then select the menu you want to add it to (Usually mainmenu). Next, add the menu item's name (keep it relatively short, or it may go onto a new line). Alternatively, if you want to add a link to any URL, login to the backend and go to "Menu" then click on "mainmenu". On the top right, click "New" and check the box "Link - Url". Scroll back up and click "Next". Now you can enter a menu item name, and paste the link in the line below it. Q. How can I remove a link from the main menu? A. When you are logged into the backend, go to "Menu" and click "mainmenu" you can either unpublish it, by clicking on the icon in about the center of the screen that looks like: . You can also completely remove it by clicking the check box on the left of the menu item, then scroll up and click "Trash"How can I reorganize the main menu? A. When you are logged into the backend, go to "Menu" then click "mainmenu". About center of the screen you will see icons like: , click on the arrows to move them up or down.Q. How Do I add a new content item to the main page? A. When you are logged into the backend, go to "Content" then click on "All Content Items" There is a column called "Front Page" click on the red "X". These locks show when someone is currently editing an item, if you click the "Back Button", etc without saving or closing, these will keep showing up. If you have other people editing content, make sure they are done with it. then you can login to the backend and go to "System" and click "Global Check-in". This should not be used while someone is editing content. Q. How do I prevent people from registering at my site? A. First, make sure the "Mail From" is setup right in the configuration. You can access this by logging into the backend, going to "Site" then clicking "Global Configuration". Click on the "Mail" tab and make sure the email address is correct. You may also want to try SMTP. You can get a SMTP email address from many places. Your Web Hosting company most likely supports POP3/SMTP email addresses. Other free services such as Gmail also provide SMTP support. Another simple solution to your problem is checking to make sure the "Administrator" contact has the appropriate email address. To Access this, login to the backend, go to "Components", then go to "Contacts" and click on " Manage Contacts". Click on "Administrator" and set the email address to the same as in the site configuration. Q. How can I transfer my current Joomla website to a new web host? A. The easiest way is to download and install the Joomla component called JoomlaPack. Then you can Backup your website and reinstall it on a different web host. If you wish to do it manually, follow the steps below: (comments italicized and the parts from the configuration.php are bolded for easy reading)
